Plymouth, New Hampshire
is a town of diversity and talent. Certainly Plymouth State
University offers many cultural advantages. But a further truth
is that the Plymouth area has a community of creative artists
who are nurtured by and give nourishment to this town. Fine
arts and craftspeople, writers, painters, sculptors, scholars,
musicians, inventors, graphic artists, photographers, and textile
designers are among the quiet contributors to our cultural wealth.
Silver
Center for the Arts opened in the fall of 1992, as a regional
arts center, as well as a teaching facility for music, theater
and dance students. The Silver Series, a co-production
of the Silver Center for the Arts, the Student Senate of the
University and Friends of the Arts, presents a full schedule
of world renowned artists during the academic year. During
the summer, the New Hampshire Music Festival presents a six-week
summer music festival, and a seven-week Children's Theater is
produced by the North Country Center of the Arts.
Artistic
Roots is a cooperative arts center that bridges the gap between
artistic expression and community. Artistic Roots brings the
local community and artists together in a celebration of creativity,
through workshops, classes, community events, gallery receptions,
outreach and collaborative projects. The gallery also provides
peer mentoring, workshops, and direct support to artists to
help them improve their artistic and business skills while providing
an outlet for their work. Artistic Roots encourages personal
artistic growth as well as professionalism in presentation.
It is a venue for increasing awareness of the creative process
and educating the community about the generational value of
art.
We are
a 35-year-old non-profit regional arts council that provides
over 32 towns and 41 schools throughout Central New Hampshire
with affordable and accessible art programs. Our office
is located in Silver Center for the Arts on the Plymouth State
University (PSU) campus. PSU has also been our generous
supporter for many years through donating both space and resources.
We have a great staff, an average of 16 Trustees and over 100
volunteers. We are all members of the communities we serve:
as teachers, business owners, artists, coaches, interior decorators,
web designers, doctors, parents, military service members, retirees
and students from all walks of life. We believe in improving
the quality of our schools, communities and lives through art,
and show our dedication and commitment to this belief by giving
time, talent and resources.
